Dog License

TO PURCHASE A DOG LICENSE IN HERMOSA BEACH

Hermosa Beach dog licenses are renewed every September. You must purchase your dog's license before October 31 or a 50% penalty will be added to the cost of the license.

In order to purchase a license, you must provide proof of rabies vaccination by a licensed veterinarian. The vaccination must be good through the entire licensing year (until Sept. 30). A grace period is given until October 31 without penalty.

Dog Licenses are $29 for non-neutered/non-spayed dogs; $12 for neutered/spayed dogs (proof of sterility required) during the licensing period (September to October 31) HBMC Section 6.08.080.

Senior Citizens’ (60 years old or over) rate is 50% of the rates established above.

Dogs new to the City must be licensed within 30 days or a penalty will apply.

Dog licenses may be purchased in the Finance Cashier office located at City Hall, 1315 Valley Drive, Room 101, Hermosa Beach, CA 90254, or by mail at the same address.

Please don't allow your dog to bark excessively.
Please don't let your animal soil your neighbor's shrubbery or lawn.
Please don't let your dog chase cars, bicycles, or people.
Please don't let your dog jump or lunge at passersby.
In your absence, make adequate arrangements for your dog regarding food and shelter.

HERMOSA BEACH DOG REGULATIONS

As residents of the City of Hermosa Beach and a dog owner, there are several laws regarding your dog about which you should be informed. The following are those laws most frequently abused and for which citations are most frequently issued.

HBMC Section 6.08.020: The Leash Law. It is unlawful for any person to have a dog at large on any public or private property unrestrained. The leash should not exceed six feet in length.

HBMC Section 6.08.050: It is unlawful for any person to own or harbor a dog without first having obtained a valid Rabies Certificate and a City license. Per Sec. 6.08.100 and 6.08.080, licenses must be purchased by October of each year or as soon as the dog has reached the age of 4 months.

HBMC Section 6.08.100: License tags must be displayed on dogs at all times.

HBMC Section 12.20.050: Dogs are prohibited on the beach with or without lease, at all times.

HBMC Section 6.04.100: It is unlawful for any person to allow their dog to defile any public or private property.

HBMC Section 6.04.100: The owner of any dog must curb said dog and immediately remove the feces and dispose of same in such a manner approved by the County Health Dept. Owner of the dog shall have in his/her possessions, carried in full view, a suitable wrapper, bag or container (other than articles of personal clothing) for the purpose of complying with the requirements of this section.

HBMC Section 8.24.080: Any animal which persistently emits any sound or cry in such a manner as to disturb residents in the vicinity may be declared a public nuisance.

HBMC Section 6.04.040: Household pets. (Dogs, cats, canaries, parrots and other similar animals and birds usually and ordinarily kept as household pets.) It is unlawful for any person to keep or maintain more than two household pets at any residential dwelling without making application for and receiving a permit to do so.

HBMC Section 6.04.050: Nonhousehold animals. It is unlawful for any person to keep, possess or have custody or control of any animal other than household pets without first obtaining a written permit to do so.
