City of Hermosa Beach --- Candidate Statements

STATEMENT OF: Sam Y. Edgerton

CANDIDATE FOR: Member of the City Council

During my tenure as your councilman, Hermosa Beach has evolved from a City in decline to the jewel of the South Bay. A revitalized downtown, the infusion of $35 million in private capital, and the development of three parks including the roller hockey rink have made Hermosa Beach a very desirable place to live.

I have always been a catalyst on the City Council. I spearheaded the revitalization and am working on a multimillion-dollar project to rebuild the Pier. If reelected, I will encourage the development of retail establishments rather than additional restaurants, and squeeze every budgetary nickel so we may continue re-paving our streets.

Aside from capital improvement projects, I voted against oil drilling after an independent expert deemed the project unsafe. I fought to save the Bijou Theater. I successfully changed laws to allow partial funding of community events such as the St. Patrick's Day Parade and Sunset Concert Series.

I will continue to fight the FAA and LAX so that the skies over Hermosa do not turn into a flight path. This is a tough battle and requires someone with knowledge of the issues and strong resolve.

I enjoy serving you. Thank you for your support and vote.
