City of Hermosa Beach --- City Election of 2001

REBUTTAL TO ARGUMENT IN FAVOR OF MEASURE G (COUNCIL TERM LIMITS)

The proponents are correct that the Founding Fathers established our democratic system based on free, fair and OPEN competitive elections. They are now asking us to CHANGE that system. The question is ….. WHY??

WHY are they worried about an "Incumbent Advantage" in Hermosa Beach when only 3 people have been elected to more than 2 terms in the last 50 YEARS No one has EVER served more than 3 terms during that period.

WHY do they NOT TRUST US to decide who should be returned to office and who should not?

WHY do they want to prevent qualified, experienced former office holders from seeking election again for 16 YEARS ? What are they afraid of?

WHY would we want to do something that makes NO sense for OUR community, merely because it is currently "trendy" ?

WHY should we give up our RIGHT TO CHOOSE the person we feel to be most qualified to serve our needs?

WHY do we need this law when there has NEVER been a correlation between the amount of money a candidate spends in a Hermosa Beach election campaign and the success of that candidate?

WHY fix something if it isn't broken?

Vote for COMMON SENSE.

VOTE NO on Proposition G .
