![]() City of Hermosa Beach --- City Election of 2001REBUTTAL TO ARGUMENT IN FAVOR OF MEASURE H (REPEAL OF UUT)
What did Hermosa Beach do to improve public safety, code enforcement, sewer lines and streets before the UUT (Utility Users Tax) was enacted in 1985? Not much! HERMOSA BEACH IS STILL TRYING TO CATCH UP! Police, Fire and Paramedic Budgets: If Hermosa Beach expects to recruit and retain highly qualified individuals, their salaries and benefits must be competitive with those of local communities and private businesses. General Fund Spending: Increases in street, sewer and storm drain repairs as well as the number of public and residential construction projects have created an increase in planning, building and public works budgets. Hermosa Beach has full service public safety departments. Increases in police, firefighter, and paramedic personnel, salaries, benefits and equipment have caused an increase in public safety budgets. Fund Balances: Hermosa Beach has no debt. Like a prudent family, Hermosa Beach saves for unpredicted emergencies and replacement of obsolete equipment including police and firefighter vehicles. Sewer and Residential Street Repair Program: The five year plan for street and sewer repairs is based on
continuing revenue from the UUT.
MAKE NO MISTAKE. If the UUT is repealed, 12% of the budget will be cut. Would you prefer the city cut back Public Safety, Sewer Repairs or Residential Street Repairs? LESS MONEY means LESS SERVICES. If you want to
