![]() City of Hermosa Beach --- City Election of 200REBUTTAL TO ARGUMENT IN FAVOR OF MEASURE F (COASTAL INITIATIVE)
This law gives control of OUR beach to a STATE BUREAUCRACY !! Do not be fooled! Even if you favor less special events in the city, THIS IS NOT THE WAY to accomplish that goal. It will have a negative affect on ALL the events in the city, even the ones you enjoy! READ THE INITIATIVE BEFORE YOU VOTE!! It is poorly thought out and poorly written. Not only does it restrict or eliminate virtually EVERYTHING that happens on our beach from the Sunset Concerts to the Sand & Strand Run, it affects EVERY event in the entire COASTAL ZONE! That means EVERYTHING from the water's edge to Ardmore Avenue. It will severely restrict or eliminate many of OUR FAVORITE ACTIVITIES such as School Fairs and Fund Raisers, the Farmer's Market, Little League events, Health Fairs, Fire Fighter Pancake Breakfast and events that serve as fund-raisers for our many non-profit groups. The Scouts could need state approval to cookout in the park. It would prohibit the Women's Club Pancake Breakfast from occurring on the same day as the Project Touch Car Show. Do we need a law like this? A simple wedding by the sea could require Coastal Commission approval. It also creates a new tangled web of city bureaucracy. It INCREASES COSTS to the taxpayers while it ELIMINATES REVENUES. It will bring far more damage than benefit to our city. Our neighbors in Manhattan Beach gave the identical proposal a resounding NO ! Join them and VOTE NO on Measure F.
