City of Hermosa Beach --- City Election of 2001

REBUTTAL TO ARGUMENT AGAINST MEASURE G (COUNCIL TERM LIMITS)

It's not surprising that three-term-incumbent, Sam Edgerton and Councilman J.R. Reviczky - who's also now asking for a 3rd term - oppose Term Limits.

But we have to think about our future.

Often, the longer an incumbent is in office, the more brazen they tend to get.

In the real world, a long period in office tends to create arrogant, cynical careerists, resistant to reform, out of touch with the electorate, skilled at and caring for little but how to be reelected.

Local "career" politicians can cause more damage that directly impacts our lives than any state official.

Just look at our downtown with its non-stop huge commercial events and bars.

In their wisdom, over the last eight years, they've approved the displacement of many of our community serving businesses such as: the video rental shop, doctors office, camera shop, cleaners, drug store, bike shop, hardware store, lawyers office, ALL WITH BARS!

Even Either-Or Bookstore has been driven out.

Imagine what 8 more years would do!

WE can't afford to continue this kind of chokehold on power.

People fee you have a right to serve, and then you have to move over and let the younger folks take over.

After all, even the president gets only eight years.

At city hall, we have staff with many years' experience. "Staff" provides the "institutional memory" city council persons draw upon when making decisions.

Term limits is good law.

It's the right thing to do…VOTE YES on Measure "G"

Thank You!
