![]() City of Hermosa Beach --- Voter InformationINFORMATION FOR NEW OR RE-REGISTERING VOTERS from the Registrar-Recorder / County Clerk (RR/CC) Did you know the deadline for voter registration has changed?
Q. How and where do I register? A. You may register by completing a registration-by-mail form. Forms are available throughout Los Angeles County at most county buildings, city halls, fire stations, libraries, Dept. of Motor Vehicle Offices, Public Assistance Offices (DPSS, WIC), banks and post offices. You may choose to register to vote via the Internet at http://www.lavote.net Voter information and/or registration forms can also be obtained at the RR/CC Headquarters in Norwalk and at branch offices. Registration forms may be requested during regular business hours by calling the Election Information Section of:
Q. What are some reasons I would re-register? A. If you have:
Q. Will I still get a sample ballot? A. The old law required sending ALL registered voters a sample ballot booklet including a notice of your polling place before every election. Under the new law (Amends elections code section 13303) a sample ballot will be mailed to each voter who registers or re-registers at least 29 days prior to the election. Persons who registered between 29 and 15 days prior to an election may be sent a sample ballot if there is time to process these last minute registrations. If not, such registrants will receive a post card confirming voter registration and including a notice of their polling place.
Q. What other options are available to get a sample ballot and find my polling place? A. For all elections other than special Hermosa Beach elections, sample ballots and polling places may be accessed on the Registrar's website at www.lavote.net For ALL elections, extra sample ballots are available at all polling places. Q. What happens if my name does not appear on the voter list at my polling place? A. California has a provisional voting process to handle voters whose eligibility to vote cannot be determined by a precinct worker. Ballots for such voters are placed in provisional ballot envelopes. Each is researched and verified prior to certification of official election results. This process avoids turning away voters at polling places whose names may not be on the precinct lists (which must be printed 22 days before each statewide election in order to be placed in elections supplies delivered to 5,000 voting precincts for L.A. County's approximately 4.1 million registered voters.) A supple- mental voters list is mailed to each precinct inspector containing registrations processed after precinct rosters were printed.
