STATEMENT OF: Lauren M. Gezurian

CANDIDATE FOR: Member of City Council

As a long-time resident, I have seen Hermosa Beach go from a sleepy hamlet to a crowded city. Though we are thriving economically, we cannot lose sight of what we are becoming. Will we emulate Laguna Beach or Daytona Beach, Florida?

Can we risk four more years of unchecked commercial development with minimal vision of community consequence?

In my job as a Disney Imagineer, I interface daily with others to create themeparks, mini-cities which must be planned from its infrastructure, development of buildings and facilities, and landscaping to the quality of life and safety it will provide. I believe Hermosa Beach needs a masterplan for the future, created by interested residents, community leaders and officials. A vision that can be modified and adjusted, but that is sound and provides a foundation for tomorrow.

We need a City Council that is pro-active rather than re-active. Leadership that leads, not follows, yet carries out the will of the people.

We want to retain our gem of a city. A town all the residents can enjoy as well as visitors that come to experience an array of entertainment, dining and shopping. A place we can proudly call home.
