Statement of Sam Y. Edgerton
Candidate for Hermosa Beach City General Municipal Election
Member of the City Council
Age: 47
Occupation: Incumbent/Business Lawyer
As your senior Councilman, I have guided Hermosa Beach from boarded-up storefronts in 1991 to today's thriving beach community. I have a proven record of leadership, including the revitalization of our downtown, the Pier, our parks, including Valley Park, which re-opened this Summer.
I have always been a catalyst. I played a major role in our downtown revitalization, pier re-construction and made re-paving our streets and Strand a top priority. East of PCH, I initiated the residents' plan to close off Corona Street and spearheaded the speed hump program on 9th Street. Citywide, I have taken measures to protect our residential zones, including Marineland.
My leadership, however, does not end at the dais. I started the Sunset Concerts on the Beach and the Beach Cities Toy Drive.
The fiscal shortfall this year caused by the State budget crisis requires experienced leadership. I have been a steady hand guiding Hermosa in both good and lean fiscal times. This year I voted against increased taxes in favor of spending cuts.
If re-elected, I will be there to ensure Measure J mandates for our schools are carried out, including construction of new classrooms and gym.
Thank you for your support and your vote.
