City of Hermosa Beach --- Candidate Statements

STATEMENT OF: Donley Falkenstien

CANDIDATE FOR: Member of the City Council

When I ran for City Council in '97 I promised to repeal the Utility User Tax because it was imposed on taxpayers by the city Council without consent and promised to expire in 3 years. 14 years later this tax is still being imposed.

THIS IS WHAT'S WRONG WITH LOCAL GOVERNMENT!

I kept my promise by authoring "The Hermosa Beach Taxpayer Consent Act" and qualifying it for this ballot. It'll repeal the Utility Tax and require voter consent for any future taxes. That's what I believe in. I also caught the City Council last year imposing 3 illegal taxes. I saved taxpayers $200,000.

I promised I'd protect our coast by diverting polluted storm-drain runoff and protecting parking. So I co-authored "The Hermosa Beach Coastal Conservation Act" and qualified it for the next election.

I also authored and qualified term limits for the same ballot as promised.

I subscribe to the Jesse Ventura philosophy where SPECIAL INTERESTS TAKE A BACK SEAT to residents concerns and elected representatives serve their terms and return to private life. Excluding incumbents, WE'VE NOT HAD A NEW COUNCIL MEMBER SINCE THE '80's.

Elections are about our future. Make me your first choice. Thank you.
