ARGUMENT AGAINST MEASURE "G" (TERM LIMITS)

This measure eliminates CHOICE from the voters!

The voters of Hermosa Beach have always had term limits at their disposal. The most effective term limit for any elected official is the power of the ballot box. You, the voters, have the power not to return someone to office simply by choosing not to vote for them. Hermosa Beach voters have never shown any hesitation to use that ballot pox power.

On the other hand, legislated term limits does not allow voters the choice of returning a qualified, experience office holder, and often leaves only unknown or unqualified candidates from which to choose. Would this mandated restriction to the voter's choice REALLY be in the best interest of our city?

This measure requires an elected official to wait 16 YEARS before seeking office again. Why should we punish some of our best and most devoted citizens with ridiculous limits on their ability to serve our community?

Keep your right to choose!

Term limit legislation, which forever preempts the voter's choice, is only needed in large districts where an incumbent holds a distinct advantage in the ability to raise massive campaign funds that cannot be matched by a challenger. This has NEVER been an issue in our small city! History has shown that the biggest spenders often lose the election in Hermosa.

Term limits have not been an issue in the 100-year history of Hermosa Beach. Why do we need this restriction now?
