Residential Trash Collection Services
Property owner supplies containers. The City has implemented a manual trash collection system for single family residents. Trash services are provided on a weekly basis, ranging from Monday to Thursday. The City recommends the use of 32-gallon or less trash containers for easy maneuvering.
Helpful Hints on Collection Day
To guarantee that your trash and recycling bins are collected, place your containers at the curb or in the alley by 6 a.m. on your regular collection day.
Please make sure that your container is not placed in the street.
Containers placed in the street, often block parking locations and hinder street sweeping activities.
Containers must be removed from the curb within 24 hours of trash collection.
Bulky Item Collection Services
The City offers the collection of large bulky items free of charge up to 2 pick-ups per year to residents of both single and multi-unit residences. Bulky Items are defined as large items such as sofas, tables, mattresses, book cases, televisions, ranges, and other appliances or white goods. To coordinate bulky item pick up, contact Consolidated Disposal Services at (800) 299-4898, at least 24 hours in advance of your regular trash collection day.
Commercial Trash Collection (Dumpster Service)

Purchasing Recycled Products

Choose Recycled Products

Fewer natural resources and less energy are needed to make recycled products. When we buy recycled, we're helping to conserve and we create a demand for recycled products which keeps recycling programs strong. Take a look at the label before you buy. Make a point of buying products with the familiar three-arrow logo.

What Does that Recycling Logo Really Mean?

Recycled LOGO: Products made with recycled materials.

Recyclable LOGO: Products that can be recycled, but may not have recycled content.

Waste Prevention Ideas at Home

Whenever we create waste, we're throwing away valuable resources. Every day each California resident generates about six pounds of garbage. So, what can we do? Recycling is an important step, but it's not enough.

For every dollar you spend, ten cents pays for packaging. Packaging is now the fourth largest industry in the U.S. Over packaging is a common practice for manufacturers, and over packaged products costs you more money and increases the amount of trash sent to the landfills.

Shopping To Reduce Waste

The next time you go to the grocery store, look at the products on the shelf. Pick the ones without packaging or with the least wasteful packaging. Avoid buying packaged foods with disposable single serve trays that have multiple layers of wrapping. Use an electric shaver and avoid disposable razors. Remember to buy items that you can recycle at your curbside recycling program.

Bulk vs. Single Items

Buy in bulk. You'll avoid over packaging and save money too. Buy concentrated products to reduce packaging. Examples are concentrated fruit juices, powdered ice tea mix, laundry detergent, fabric softener, and window cleaner.

Paper or Plastic?

Instead of using paper or plastic, bring your own cloth shopping bag or string tote bag. If you buy just one or two items, try going without a bag. The store pays for its bags, which means, so do you.

Waste Prevention At Home

You can begin to reduce waste in a number of easy ways. Approximately one-third of our household waste comes from the packaging of products. You can conserve resources, while shopping and reduce waste in the process. Here are some easy to implement guidelines:

  • Use a Sponge Instead of Throwaway Wipes
  • Buy Rechargeable Batteries
  • Buy Cloth Napkins You Can Wash, Instead of Paper You Throw Away.
  • Buy Washable Plates and Cups for Picnics Instead of Disposable Ones.
  • Buy Razors with Replaceable Blades.
  • Purchase Products Packaged in Reusable or Refillable Containers.
  • Use Plastic Containers & Lids.
  • Eliminate Foil, Plastic Bags, or Plastic Wrap.
  • Bring a Cloth Bag to the Market, Don't Use Plastic or Paper!

Household Hazardous Waste Disposal

We recommend four options for disposing of your Household Hazardous Waste (HHW):

  • Donate materials to family, friends or non-profit organizations;
  • Take materials to a Hazardous Waste Collection Facility;
  • Dispose of HHW by attending a county sponsored HHW Round-Up, scheduled throughout the County of Los Angeles (Phone 1-800-98-TOXIC to learn more about the HHW Round-ups).
  • Visit http://www.lacsd.org/HHW/HHWFLIER.htm for further information.

Christmas Tree Recycling

Single and Multi-Unit Residences

Christmas trees will be collected, transported and processed as Green Waste from all residential premises within the city which are placed for collection on the first three regularly scheduled collection days after December 25 for each collection.

In addition, for three weeks commencing December 26th, one site (as determined by the City Manager) will be provided at a location designated by the City Manager for the drop-off of acceptable holiday trees.

PLEASE! Remove all ornaments, hooks, lights, tree stands and tinsel before placing the tree at the curb. Trees over 6 feet tall must be cut in half for easy collection.
