HERMOSA BEACH
LAWN BOWLING CLUB
The Hermosa Beach Lawn Bowling Club is located next to Clark
Building at 861 Valley Drive, Hermosa Beach. We are open to the
public and we furnish equipment and instruction to
beginners.
A BIT OF HISTORY
Our club was founded in 1936, when Mayor John Clark obtained
the approval of the City Council to install a green at his own
expense. In 1958, a clubhouse was donated and in 1963 a second
green was laid. In the 1960s, over 150 bowlers could be seen
all dressed in white. When membership waned, the second green
was lost to the basketball court. We are a smaller, more
informal club now and are seeking new members.
HOW AND WHEN WE PLAY
Lawn bowls weigh about 4 pounds and are elliptical in shape,
causing a bias or curve when rolled on the green toward the
small white target ball called the jack. Teams of doubles or
triples are usually played. This is a fun sport of moderate
exercise. We bowl on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 11:45 a.m. and
on Saturday at 9:45 a.m. Come at any session (approximately 2
hours.) We only ask that you wear rubber soled shoes to protect
the green, and no, you don’t have to wear white clothes.
We also have special events, sometimes on Sundays, with
tournaments and barbecues.
Please join us at our historical location.
